Hanley Wood Acquires Two Architecture Magazines

September 29, 2006 -- Hanley Wood, LLC, the leading business-to-business media and information company serving the housing and construction industries, announced today the purchase of ARCHITECTURE and ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING from VNU Business Media, Inc. ARCHITECTURE will immediately be merged into Hanley Wood’s newest launch, ARCHITECT, which debuts in October.

“As the name suggests, ARCHITECT is about people, and their process,” says Editor-In-Chief Ned Cramer. “Our goal is to build community around issues of universal concern to the profession: technological change, social and environmental sustainability, business growth, practice management and, of course, design.”

ARCHITECT will use the language of design to appeal to a community of designers. Award-winning designer Abbott Miller of Pentagram is creating the magazine’s graphics. Hanley Wood will simultaneously launch www.architectmagazine.com, a parallel Web-based publication with a reader-submitted design gallery, breaking news, product resources, and continuing education.

“The launch of ARCHITECT, along with the acquisition of ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING, accelerates our strategy to expand aggressively into the non-residential/commercial market,” says Peter Goldstone, President, Hanley Wood Business Media. ARCHITECT and ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING will be part of the Commercial Design group under the direction of Group Publisher Patrick J. Carroll.

“Architecture and Architectural Lighting have been successful publications for VNU. We believe that they will become a vital part of the larger plan of Hanley Wood for the non-residential construction market,” says Bob Krakoff, President and CEO of VNU Business Media.

“Hanley Wood has long dominated the residential media space. Now we’re developing an equally strong portfolio of magazines, Web sites, events and data products that serve the fast-growing non-residential construction market,” according to Hanley Wood CEO Frank Anton.
